Once Upon a Time
Premiere Date: Sunday, September 25th at 8/7c
Once Upon a Time is coming into its 6th season, and there are plenty of new things to be excited about!
Season 6 Summary from show creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz: When Regina split herself in an attempt to eliminate her evil half, she unwittingly released the Evil Queen. Now the Evil Queen is back and ready to leave a trail of destruction in her wake. Meanwhile, Regina is quickly learning that destroying her dark side won’t be that easy, especially when dealing with the consequences of having unleashed the Queen on Storybrooke. Emma learns a life-altering secret that could have serious consequences for her family and loved ones. While the heroes grapple with what Emma is confronting, Henry welcomes the new arrivals from the Land of Untold Stories by pledging to help them complete their tales. But when Snow White, Prince Charming, Regina, Captain Hook and Zelena become entwined in these untold tales, they find themselves haunted by their own unfinished pasts. Meanwhile, after handing Storybrooke over to Mr. Hyde, Mr. Gold continues his quest to wake Belle from her self-induced sleeping curse, in hopes of reuniting with both her and their unborn child. This season, our heroes will be met with many surprises, including Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz), a former Savior who may be able to offer Emma just the help she needs, Jafar (Oded Fehr), Princess Jasmine (Karin David), the Count of Monte Cristo (Craig Horner) and Morpheus (Giles Matthey).
Here’s a breakdown of what I’m most excited about for the upcoming season…
Return of the Evil Queen:
The end of season 5 saw Regina Mills (played by Lana Parrilla) separate herself from the Evil Queen, crushing her heart, and thinking that she had finally defeated her worse half. However, instead of destroying her evil alter ego, the villain somehow survived. The Evil Queen is now a separate person from Regina, which spells trouble for Storybrooke. What will happen when Regina realizes that her evil side lived to see another day? However, Regina might not be all good, Lana Parrilla teased to Hypable:
“I think that Regina ultimately wants to be good and make selfless decisions, and make decisions and choices that are healthy, and positive, and great for everyone. I think she’s still going to be on that path, [but] there’s so much that I don’t know— I don’t know what the Evil Queen is going to awaken inside of her, but I’m curious to find out.”
While wickedness might not be the best word to describe what is going on inside Regina, Parrilla’s last statement does hint the Once Upon A Time character won’t be left with just positive traits. Co-executive producer Adam Horowitz explained that separating Regina and the Evil Queen isn’t as black and white as fans may think.
“The separation of the dark and the light in Regina— it’s not a simple as just cutting someone in half. Can you really just take one part of yourself out? What does that do to the rest of you?”
Hook and Emma:
Some of Hook’s (played by Colin O’Donoghue) past will be revealed. Some fans wondered if this would cause problems with his romantic life. However, it was revealed that Hook and Emma’s (played by Jennifer Morrison) relationship would strengthen in Once Upon A Time Season 6. Instead, Hook’s past may test some of his current relationships in some way.
Henry and Emma:
Henry and Emma will once again team up this season; their operation will have a new name and that will be revealed in the season premiere.
Also, expect to learn about Belle’s (Emilie de Ravin) past, and she will be more confident and independent in the upcoming season. It’s not true love for Rumbelle, but given Rumplestiltskin’s evil actions at all times, is that really a surprise? When Belle eventually wakes up from her long slumber, with a baby in tow, how will being a mother affect her relationship with the beast she used to love? Could Belle truly be a changed woman, or will her forgiving spirit give Rumple ANOTHER chance?
The Charmings Past:
Snow and Charming’s past with the Evil Queen will come back to haunt them. The villain put a plan into motion years ago, and in present day Storybrooke it will come to fruition. There may be some trouble in the Charmings marriage. Josh Dallas, the actor who plays David, teased at Comic-Con that some things his character thought were “truths in his life” may not be so true. The rest of the details remain unknown.
With new characters from the Land of the Untold Stories entering Storybrooke, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin), David (Josh Dallas) and Regina (Lana Parrilla) will go exploring “a most unusual crash site” in the woods. A picture of the three characters exploring the site has been posted on TV Line.
It is not clear if the crash site in the woods of Storybrooke will have some revelation that will affect the relationship of the two characters. The site looks like it is from the crashed airship set, a picture of which had leaked last month. As previously reported, many pictures from the set of the show have leaked online recently.
Introduction of Aladdin, Jafar, and Jasmine:
Entertainment Weekly reported in August that “Emma learns a life-altering secret that could have serious consequences for her family and loved ones.” This season is introducing Aladdin (played by Deniz Akdeniz), who we already know is a former Savior himself. It has also been confirmed that Aladdin will help Emma on her journey this season as they dive further into Savior mythos, but WHAT is the secret??
More Dr. Whale:
Okay, this is more about being excited to see David Anders (I also love him on iZombie). The news from the ABC Television Critic’s Association regarding Dr. Whale leads me to believe his role will be a bit more “mad” this season. Let’s not forget, Dr. Whale is also Dr. Frankenstein. “Let’s just say mad scientists stick together,” Executive Producer and writer Adam Horowitz said.
Not Another Split Season: Having spent the last 3 seasons splitting the story in half, Edward Kitsis said of Season 6 back in June, “It’s not going to be ‘Hyde comes to town, we fight with him for 10 episodes, and then in the winter finale he dies and we move on.’ We are… going back to that Season 1 mentality of small-town stories and smaller arcs.”
Marvel’s Luke Cage
Premiere Date: September 30th on Netflix
Like many other superheroes, Luke Cage, also known as Power Man in comic books, gets his powers — super strength; rock-hard bulletproof skin — after being subjected to science experiments.
However, at first, Luke Cage wants to keep a low profile and downplay his special abilities, but duty eventually calls as Harlem is besieged by criminals overseen by the villainous boss Cornell Stokes, who is also known as Cottonmouth in comics.
Luke Cage is the third Marvel-inspired Netflix original series, following two seasons of Daredevil, starring Charlie Cox, and one season of Jessica Jones, on which Colter appeared as Cage in a prominent supporting role opposite star Krysten Ritter.
Along with the upcoming Iron Fist, starring Game of Thrones alum Finn Jones, and The Punisher, with Jon Bernthal reprising his role as vigilante Frank Castle, Marvel and Netflix are building toward The Defenders, a superhero team that battles bad guys on the gritty streets of the fictional New York in Marvel’s universe.
The series also stars Mahershala Ali (House of Cards), Simone Missick (Wayward Pines), Frankie Faison (The Silence of the Lambs), Alfre Woodard (State of Affairs) and Rosario Dawson, who has appeared in both seasons of Daredevil as well.

The Flash is coming into its 3rd season, and there are plenty of new things to be excited about!
Official Season 3 Summary (it’s really long, feel free to skip down to the trailer):
Until recently, 26 year-old Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police department. He was secretly in love with his best friend, Iris West (Candice Patton), daughter of Barry’s surrogate father, Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). Joe adopted Barry fifteen years ago after Barry’s mother was murdered and Barry’s father, Henry Allen, received a life sentence for the crime – though Barry always maintained that a mysterious “Man in Yellow” was responsible. Then the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with superspeed and making him the fastest man alive. But Barry wasn’t the only person who was given extraordinary abilities that night. The dark matter also created meta-humans, many of whom have wreaked havoc with their powers on the city. With the help of his scientist friends at S.T.A.R Labs, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), and Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh), Barry began a journey as The Flash to protect the people of Central City from these powerful new threats. With this team, Barry was finally able to defeat the Man in Yellow, aka The Reverse Flash, but in their epic battle, a Singularity was ripped in space and time that threatened to destroy them all.
After successfully closing the Singularity from destroying Central City, Barry thinks he’s seen the worst… but the arrival of Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) reveals that the Singularity actually opened portals to an alternate Earth, known as Earth-2, which is being terrorized by a formidable evil speedster named Zoom. As Zoom sends an army of Earth-Two meta-humans to Earth-1 to defeat Barry, he receives unexpected assistance from the Earth-Two doppelganger of his former mentor, Harrison Wells. Meanwhile, Cisco discovers that he, too, was affected by the dark matter of the Particle Accelerator and must come to terms with his newfound powers. As Barry struggles to juggle life as a hero, he opens his heart to Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten), a spunky detective paired with Joe West, but realizes just how hard it is to find happiness when the lives of everyone you love are at stake. He finds some solace in the companionship of his father, Henry Allen, who was freed from a wrongful life sentence… but when Zoom kills Henry before Barry’s eyes, Barry’s newfound stability is shattered.
Blinded by anger, Barry unwittingly plays into Zoom’s game and uncovers the evil speedster’s true goal: to destroy all Earths in the multiverse. In the race of his life, Barry ultimately gets the upper hand against Zoom and defeats his nemesis. But unable to celebrate victory, Barry makes a world-shaking decision and speeds back in time to the night his mother died to stop Reverse Flash from killing her, irrevocably changing his past and redetermining his future.
The Flash Season 3 Trailer:
Here’s a breakdown of what I’m most excited about for the upcoming season…
Wally West as the Kid Flash:
I was excited when images of Keiynan Lonsdale’s character, Wally West was finally seen in the “Kid Flash” costume. It has been long suspected that showrunners Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg would go the route of introducing “Flashpoint” into the storyline and the idea of Wally West turning into a speedster has been hinted at over the last season. According to interviews with the cast at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Iris West will know Kid Flash’s secret identity, but his own father, Joe West, will not. It is also rumored that Wally will have a love interest with Jesse Wells from Earth 2, which was also hinted at during Season 2.
New Villains… Savitar & Dr. Alchemy:
The main villains for The Flash season 3 are the evil speedster Savitar (believed to be played by Todd Lasance) and the scary scientist Dr. Alchemy (casting unclear at this stage). After Reverse-Flash and Zoom, you might be wondering why they’d opt for another speed-based villain. IGN asked executive producer Todd Helbing if it’s because speedsters offer a greater threat to Barry, and here’s Helbing’s response:
“Yeah, I think in general if you have some of these other meta humans, it gets hard to show how Barry can’t get them. If you have another speedster, especially someone like Zoom, or Reverse Flash, you need somebody on an equal level to provide that threat that a lot of these other metas can’t do.”
He added this, to hype up Savitar:
“Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way. I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can’t go into super detail, but he’s not like Zoom or Reverse Flash.”
And this, regarding Dr. Alchemy:
“We still need those darker moments, and I think when you find out what Alchemy is doing, it sort of provides that “holy s**t” moment that we really love to have on our show.”
My returning favorite, Cisco Ramon:
I love Cisco Ramon. I have loved him since Season 1. Cisco Ramon wormed his way into my heart with his dorky engineer brain, his witty lines and jokes, and his awesome t-shirt collection.
Flashpoint is an important part of Cisco’s arc. “This is where everything is changing, he starts to realize maybe he is a hero,” Carlos Valdes explained. “With the acceptance of those powers and that responsibility, Cisco starts to bloom,” he teased. We will also get to see him interact with his brother again, “Dante actually plays a very important role for Cisco’s arc in Season 3. Viewers are gonna get to see that right from Episode 2.”
Introducing Tom Felton:
In other news, The Flash season 3 has snapped up Tom Felton – best known as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies – for a recurring role. He’ll play Julian Dorn, a new Central City Police Department CSI colleague for Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen.
Julian will be the first central character in a while who doesn’t know Barry’s superhero secret. According to TV Line, it won’t be long before he “suspects there’s more to Barry Allen than just his good guy reputation.”
“It’s a very nerve-racking thing to come on to someone else’s set,” Felton admitted, “For me to be expected to jump into it, is not always that easy.” While mum about the details of his character, he did tease that his skill set is very similar to that of Barry’s, which might cause a rift between the two characters.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Premiere Date: November 25th on Netflix
According to an interview with series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life is about three women at a crossroads in each of their lives.
For Kelly Bishop’s newly-widowed Emily, the upcoming Netflix revival will explore, “What does the death of a husband mean to a woman who had a life very specific to her all of these years?” previewed Sherman-Palladino. “And where does she go from here?” Meanwhile, Lauren Graham’s Lorelai — whom AS-P described as “a single-yet-coupled independent woman who has had guards up all her life to protect her daughter and to protect herself” — will be grappling with, “‘Where am I now? Where’s my path? Where’s my comfort?’”
Lastly, Rory (Alexis Bledel) will find herself second-guessing pretty much all of her life choices. “It’s this idea of, you hit [your 30s], you did everything right — you went to college, you had the good grades, you worked really hard — and yet somehow life isn’t turning out the way you wanted it to turn out,” shared the EP. “And because the world is changing [so quickly] I think that’s something a lot of very well educated [thirtysomething] kids are going through. They’re turning around going, ‘I did it. I did the homework. I did the finals. I did the whole thing. I know the s–t. Why am I not getting where I need to go?’”
